A family photoshoot in the heart of Shropshire during golden hour
They call it golden hour for a reason, these types of family photoshoots have been growing ever popular over the last few years and it's easy to see why. I have spent hours wandering the gorgeous Shropshire countryside to find the most perfect locations for our sunset sessions. When you book with me, you'll see why I curate the locations I have. I pour my heart and soul into these photoshoots and want you to cherish each photo I deliver.
So when is golden hour?
Golden hour is an hour before the sunsets, this gives the sky that golden glow and is just low enough to make the sky in your photos have a soft warm glow.
Sunset is past my babies / children's bed time?!
I hear you, most children's bed time is between 7-8pm but they'll surprise you. I would reframe this to your children and let them know they're going on an adventure before bedtime! I always make sure I am prepped with stickers and games to keep them engaged and you'll be surprised how happy they are and forget how 'tired' they are.
Here are some of the things that work well for families before the photoshoot:
- Pushing nap times a little later or allow them to have a 'danger nap' in the car during late afternoon.
- A big hearty meal before the shoot
- Leave a little earlier and let them have a power nap in the car before the shoot
- Telling them we're going on an adventure to play outdoors past bedtime
- Bringing special snacks for them to eat throughout the photoshoot
Where is the location?
When you book with me, I will share the final location based on where you are but they are usually in Telford or Shrewsbury in Shropshire. There are lots of gorgeous locations in the Shropshire area so if there is any in mind that you have, please do let me know.
What do we wear?
I like to suggest neutral and earthy tones for family photoshoots, this doesn't mean matching outfits, this means a nice colour palette that compliments each other. Browns, burnt oranges, creams, whites, blue denim, yellow, khaki greens, maxi dresses, wooly knitwear. More details will be given in my welcome guide.
What about the weather?
I tend to shoot from March - Sept so the weather is 80% on our side but we are in England after all so I'll always keep a track on the weather a week ahead and we will keep checking as the date gets closer. If the weather forecasts rain, we can reschedule for an alternative date!
