Celebrating breastfeeding mothers through photography in Shropshire
Breastfeeding Week 2026 was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate, support and raise awareness of breastfeeding mothers and the incredible journeys they undertake. This year, I marked the occasion with a special breastfeeding photoshoot in Shropshire with six lovely mothers at all stages to celebrate the beauty, strength and connection between mothers and their babies.
As a photographer specialising in motherhood and family photography in Shropshire, I believe these moments deserve to be remembered. Breastfeeding is so much more than feeding a baby. It can be a deeply personal journey filled with love, vulnerability, challenges and some of the most beautiful moments of early motherhood and that deserves to be celebrated.
Why breastfeeding photography matters
So much of motherhood is a season. The tiny hands, the sleepy feeds or the cuddles in the early hours of the morning. The way your baby looks at you while feeding is something so magical! The overwhelming feeling of knowing that, for a moment, you are their entire world. These moments can feel ordinary while you're living them, but one day your baby will be bigger, and these memories will become incredibly precious. This photoshoot provided an opportunity to pause and document this special chapter of motherhood.
Breastfeeding can require an enormous amount of time, patience and commitment. It can mean putting your baby's needs before your own, sometimes repeatedly throughout the day and night. It is a selfless act of love, and the women undertaking that journey deserve to be celebrated too. I wanted to put the mothers at the forefront and let them know, we see them, we appreciate them and whether you breastfed for two days, two months or two years, your journey matters.
Breastfeeding awareness should never be about making mothers feel guilty or judged. Some choose to combination feed, express milk or formula feed, and some are unable to breastfeed despite desperately wanting to. There is no perfect journey.
What matters is that mothers have access to accurate information, appropriate support and the freedom to make informed choices for themselves and their babies. Celebrating breastfeeding means creating a culture where mothers feel supported rather than scrutinised. Lets normalising breastfeeding and allow women to feed their babies without embarrassment. Let's recognise the incredible effort that can go into something that is often treated as though it should be effortless.
