What to expect during the day of your newborn session at home or mine


I shoot newborn photoshoots in Telford, Shrewsbury and around Shropshire and nothing makes me happier than being invited to a family home to capture their newborn bubble. It's such a privilege to be welcomed in during these tender and intimate moments of your life.


I want you to feel at ease during these delicate moments, so my approach is very laid back. We get settled into your home and I truly like to get to know you as a family. We discuss where you'd like to capture the photos whether that's in a kitchen, a bedroom or a nursery. I like to assess the light and see what works best!


So let's get into it?


What do I need to do beforehand?


Ideally you will feed your baby 15-20 minutes before I/you arrive so they are nice and full and winded if needed.


Dress them in the first outfit you’d like me to capture them in, whether that’s a onesie, something knitted or just a vest, the less layers to start the better.


How to prep your home


Keep your house warm as possible, babies love being warm and it will keep them more settled during the shoot if we’re changing them.


If you can make sure any bedding/pillows is as neutral as possible, this makes for a better picture but don’t worry if not!


I will also bring a beanbag and a few blankets so I can set up a little area for some photos of your baby on their own.


What if my baby cries?


Don’t worry if baby is fussy, we can take our time and stop for feeds/nappy changes when needed. This is always about being led by the baby, I want to make it as enjoyable and relaxing as we can for you, please don't worry, we will capture some gorgeous moments for you to treasure.


When should I book a newborn photography session?


My recommendation is during your 20 week scan, we can get a idea of when baby will arrive, if you provide me with your due date, we can provisionally book a day in and I'll leave room in my schedule for a couple weeks either side because I know birth might not be straight forward.


What age is best for a newborn photoshoot?


The recommended age is usually 1-2 weeks old. Babies are still very sleepy at this age and the wake window is small so we'll get to capture those dreamy sleeping shots as well as all the small details too.
